USA National Swim team stopped by the Sugarland Run pool
the morning of August 8, 2005. The team was on their way to the
World University Games in Izmir Turkey. US Athletes from all over the country flew into
Washington DC on Sunday August 7, and spent the day at the Washington Dulles
Marriott hotel, where they completed their final processing before flying
overseas.
At the Marriot, the athletes had their passports and
shot records checked, and received briefings from USA Swimming and the US Olympic
Committee.
Monday morning, the swimmers needed a place to practice and
stretch before getting on the flights to O'Hare International airport, then the
9 hour flight to Turkey. Since Sugarland Run has the only 50 meter pool in
the area, the National team asked if they could rent it for the morning.
The SRHOA refused to rent the pool, but instead invited the team to come as
our guests. Swimmers from the Sugarland Run Dolphins swim team
were on hand to watch the National team practice, and to pick up some
pointers
We wish the team well, and hope that they have a great time
representing the United States at the World Univeristy Games.
GO USA!
